US President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday demanded that BRICS member countries commit not to create a new currency or support another currency to replace the US dollar, threatening them with a 100% tariff if they do not, Reuters reported.

“We demand a commitment from these countries that they will not create a new BRICS currency, nor support another currency to replace the mighty US dollar, or they will face 100% tariffs and must expect to say goodbye to sales to the great American economy,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

“They can find another ‘victim’. There is no way the BRICS countries will replace the US dollar in international trade and any country that tries should wave goodbye to America,” he added.

Trump also said he had a “very productive” meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, where they discussed border issues as well as other topics, including trade, energy and the Arctic, BTA reports.

“We discussed many important issues that both countries will need to work together to address, such as the fentanyl and drug crisis that has claimed so many lives as a result of illegal immigration, fair trade deals that do not endanger American workers, and the huge trade deficit the United States has with Canada,” he wrote in another post on his social media account.

“Trudeau has committed to working with us to end this terrible devastation of American families,” Trump added.
