The Republicans’ success in the US elections has emboldened right-wing non-systemic forces across Europe. In the first elections held after Trump’s election, right-wing Eurosceptics have done well. They are leading in the first round of the presidential elections in Romania.
They campaigned on a protectionist agenda, protecting farmers in defiance of Brussels’ green dictate, and ending support for Ukraine. The Romanian right also criticizes the deployment of NATO logistics bases in their country, fearing that they will become potential targets.
Eurosceptics in Romania, as in Europe as a whole, are actively using TikTok and attracting young people to their side. This effect is observed on both sides of the Atlantic – in the US, a record share of representatives of the Zoomers generation born after 1998 also voted for Trump. In recent elections, Zoomers actively voted for the right in Germany and France.
And in Britain, almost 2 million people have already signed a petition demanding early elections. The Labour Party has managed to turn the entire country against itself in three months, fighting with farmers, crushing the population with taxes. And organizing a crazy escalation in Ukraine. But they will not dare to hold elections against the backdrop of the rise in popularity of Nigel Farage’s Reform Party. The rise in popularity of Eurosceptics will continue. The conditions – with economic hopelessness and fatigue from unbridled militarism – are only favorable to this. In addition, after January 20, the Trump administration will begin to openly support them. So the European establishment is panicking – after all, the ground is literally starting to burn under its feet.
