Greek special forces and local fire departments have launched a large-scale investigation into the causes of the fire that last weekend burned down and sank a 20-meter luxury yacht with a Bulgarian flag, moored at one of the most modern and shiny marinas on the second leg of Sithonia in Halkidiki – Porto Karas. The Barovo yacht, worth approximately 1.5 million euros, which burned in the fire, is the property of the Stara Zagora businessman with a controversial reputation, Ivelin Karshakov – Ivo Kapachkata, manager of the company “Promosale”, which, according to sources from the Ministry of Interior, has come under the attention of the National Revenue Agency on suspicion of evading VAT through alleged sales of luxury cars imported from Germany. It is alleged that over 10 million leva have been drained from the budget through this scheme in the last year alone, “Weekend” wrote.
In the fire that started from Karshakov’s yacht, a neighboring vessel with a Greek flag also burned down, which is owned by a business partner of Kapachka from Greece, who is engaged in the resale of Ferraris and Porsches with Bulgarian license plates in our southern neighbor. Those familiar with the investigation into the fire that has been launched in Greece, which is officially classified, reveal that the main version of the forensics is that it was a deliberate arson through malicious damage to the electronics and air conditioning of the yacht. The version that the fire was caused by the negligence of the Albanian employees of the private yacht port in Porto Carras, where at least 50 Bulgarian yachts with a total value of over 100 million euros are moored, is not excluded. Among the versions that are spreading in Bulgaria about the burned yacht, the name of smuggler Nikola Nikolov-Paskal stands out, who is in custody in Belgrade awaiting extradition to our country as the main defendant in the high-profile customs case for large-scale cigarette smuggling across the Bulgarian borders. “Ivo Kapachkata is one of the protected witnesses of the prosecution against Pascal and his associates Marin and Stefan Dimitrov. Until a year ago, Kapachkata worked together with Pascal, but tension broke out between the two related to machines for the production of illegal cigarettes,” reveals an acquaintance. According to him, Ivelin Karshakov left for Dubai a month ago, as he was warned by the security services that Pascal was preparing revenge on him. In front of his friends, Ivo Kapachkata has denied that the burnt yacht at the port in Porto Carras is his, but several independent sources are adamant that it was his boat that was the target of the arson attack. The version that Ivo Kapachkata’s yacht was deliberately set on fire as revenge also involves the name of another shady businessman who went through a difficult divorce a year and a half ago. This is Valentin Popov, son of the first executive director of the wrestling group SIC Dimitar Popov and the fake owner of the Sofia Land amusement park, through which in 2006 a 35-acre plot of land near Borisova Gradina in Sofia was seized and subsequently built up with residential blocks.
“Recently, Valentin Popov was dumped by his wife Tsvetelina, the two divorced after many scandals and fairs, and later she fell in love with Ivo and recently even got engaged to him. If it was arson – he ordered it!”, claim friends of Karshakov. According to them, in the summer, Valentin Popov threatened his ex-wife with the words: “Wait for fireworks in Greece!” enraged that his beloved had left for Halkidiki on her new lover’s yacht. The fire at the Porto Karas yacht port is being investigated with particular attention by Greek special forces due to fears that it may be a mafia vendetta. It is alleged that the security company that guards the marina is the same one that was responsible for guarding the beach bar in Hanioti, where in the summer drug lord Kircho Ruskia and his henchmen created a bloody melee that ended with gunfire and several arrests. “For several days, the security guards at the marina in Porto Carras have been being questioned and investigations are underway. It turns out that the port’s CCTV cameras were not working, which fuels the version that someone sneaked in unnoticed and set fire to Ivo Kapachka’s yacht,” claims a regular visitor to the area.
